About Richard A. Cavallo
Professional clarinet and saxophone player and certified music teacher Richard Cavallo holds a DMA in music education. Richard studied clarinet and saxophone with his mentor and grandfather, Joseph Cavallo. In college he studied clarinet with virtuoso Alfred Gallodoro and jazz legend John La Porta. He taught instrumental music, music theory, jazz band, jazz improv, and marching band in
the New York area for thirty years. He is currently a professor of music at Trident Technical College in Charleston.
Cavallo has been a working musician since the age of fourteen. He has played many Broadway show books, club dates, orchestral dates, and commercial jingles. He has recorded three albums as the leader of the Richard Thomas Big Band. Their last album, Back on Track, was recorded in 2015. The RTO played live radio remotes on the infamous WNEW radio station in NYC. He has played with The Drifters, Randy and the Rainbows, Lou Christie, The Impalas, The Fleetwoods , The Cadillacs, Kenny Loggins Band, Frank Sinatra Jr., Julius LaRosa, Engelbert Humperdinck, Rosemary Clooney, Charleston Symphony Orchestra Polka Band, The Temptations, Four Tops, The Platters, LandauEugene Murphy, Jazz night at Gennaro’s Restaurant for 4 years. Currently, Richard is a freelance musician in the Charleston area.
