The origins of Latin jazz trace back to the early 20th century when Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians merged their traditional rhythms with American jazz. Salsa and Latin jazz are both genres that blend Afro-Caribbean rhythms with other elements, but they differ in their musical structure and dance focus.
