The origins of Latin jazz trace back to the early 20th century when Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians merged their traditional rhythms with American jazz. This fusion created a vibrant, energetic sound that quickly gained popularity. In the United States, Latin jazz was embraced in cities like New York and Miami, where communities of Latin American immigrants flourished. The genre was further popularized by artists such as Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mario Bauzá, who introduced Latin jazz to a broader audience. Their contributions paved the way for future generations of Latin jazz musicians and enthusiasts.

Salsa and Latin jazz are both genres that blend Afro-Caribbean rhythms with other elements, but they differ in their musical structure and dance focus. Salsa is primarily a dance genre with a consistent rhythm that emphasizes percussion and vocals, making it accessible for dancers. Latin jazz, on the other hand, incorporates more complex jazz harmonies and improvisation, often featuring brass and woodwind instruments. It's more focused on the listening experience and the musicians' virtuosity.
