About Charles Grant

Charles Grant is a native of Charleston SC. He attended Bonds Wilson High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina. Charles spent over 40 successful years in the Manufacturing Industry and retired in 2019 from Boeing South Carolina.
During the later stages of his manufacturing career, Charles decided to sit in with “The Unit Band” after meeting them in 2007 at Pilot’s Lounge in Ladson SC. After he retired in 2019, Charles decided to pursue singing on a regular basis. He has performed “The National Anthem” for the Charleston RiverDogs, South Carolina Stingrays, and the Volvo Open.
After the pandemic started in 2020, Charles convinced the owner of Forte Jazz Lounge, Joe Clarke, to allow him and his friends, Bill Durant and Leroy Stewart to perform a show on Facebook Live singing with instrumental tracks. Due to Pandemic restrictions, most businesses were struggling to stay open. The show was successful enough for Joe Clarke to ask Charles to sing a few standards with his Jazz Orchestra at a wedding reception at the William Aiken House.
That led to Charles performing with The Unit Band on a monthly show featuring songs from the best male solo artists from the 60’s thru the 80’s. Another monthly show was added to focus on singing groups from the Motown era. Specialty shows focused on songs of iconic artists like Lionel Richie, Ray Charles, and James Brown have also been added to the schedule.
Since 2021, Charles has performed regularly at Forte Jazz Lounge singing jazz standards with The Forte Jazz Band and smooth jazz, and old school R&B with The Unit Band.
